Amigas del Senor
Beth and Confianza Amigas del Señor Monasterio Metodista is a Methodist Monastery for women in Limón, Colón, Honduras. Founded in 2006, there are currently two sisters: novice Confianza (Prairie Cutting), a member of Hermiston First UMC, and Sister Alegría (Beth Blodgett), member of Sellwood UMC in Portland.

Called to live as poor among the poor, our daily life is built around morning, afternoon, and evening prayer times and consists of the physical work of life in the country such as cutting firewood, washing laundry by hand, cooking on the woodfire stove, and gardening. Every Monday we volunteer at the Centro de Salud (Public Health Clinic) in Limón, where Sister Alegría (a pediatrician) sees patients and Confianza runs the pharmacy. We are influenced by Methodist and Quaker spirituality as well as traditional monasticism, and have a Covenant of Caring with Multnomah Monthly Meeting of Friends (Quakers) in Portland, OR.

We get to the internet about once a month. You can read our updates at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/amigasdelsenor/. Sign up to get them by email at that site or send a blank email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Dear Friends,

Profession week was a week to remember.  Sometimes we would rather forget.  The Saturday before, Berta and her 4 kids came over early in the afternoon.  They borrowed money to buy groceries as their boss hadn't paid them on time.  They stayed for dinner.

First Profesion PDF Print E-mail
Dear Friends,

This month, I make my First Profesion.  It means that I move from being a Novice to being a Sister.  It is one more official step in the process of "no turning back."  It is intensely personal and profound.  This is one of those precious times when I am forcefully and graciously reminded that today truly is a new beginning, a reminder that all of the reign of God is there for me, all I need to do is to notice and accept it, again, today--and tomorrow.

Dear Friends,

This has been a pretty wild time, politically, this last week.

First of all, if you have any concern about our personal safety, rest assured that we are fine and not in any danger.  We do not circulate in the halls of power.

As well as I can tell what has happened is the following.
