Thirteen youth with adult chaperones representing the annual
conferences of the Western Jurisdiction met on July 7-9 in Denver, CO
for the “WestFest Assembly.” The youth
representative from our Annual Conference was Matt
Thompson-Aue, chair of our Conference Youth Ministries Team. He was accompanied by his mother,
Laura. The coordinators for the event
were Judy Orecchio of the Rocky Mountain Annual Conference, along with Marcey
Balcomb of the Oregon-Idaho Annual Conference.
During the assembly it was announced that the Western
Jurisdiction now has two youth representatives on the denomination’s Division
of Ministry with Young People. One of
them is Rachel Nelson, a member of Morningside UMC in Salem. Congratulations to Rachel on her election to this important
position.
Other elections occurred at WestFest. Matt Thompson-Aue
was chosen as the secretary of the Western Jurisdiction Connectional Ministries
Youth Team. In addition, Matt will be
one of five youth members of the jurisdiction to attend the International Youth
Convo planned for July 2010 in Berlin,
Germany. Way to go, Matt! (Scott Harkness,
Director of Connectional Ministries 7-28))
