Application for Peace with Justice Grants
Witness Team, Oregon-Idaho Annual Conference,
The United Methodist Church

A primary purpose of the Peace with Justice mini grant is to help provide seed money for new programs or projects and/or to assist with special needs associated with new phases of ongoing projects sponsored by Oregon-Idaho local churches, church members or church agencies, and organizations who resource local churches.

Maximum award for a mini grant is $500.

Peace with Justice funding may be appropriate for programs, which involve education, advocacy, political action, and Biblical witness. Preference will be given to programs which:
1. Seek alternatives to violence and its causes,
2. Support alternatives to war and militarism,
3. Shape economic and social policies that promote economic justice and the self-development of peoples.
4. Promote restorative justice, including abolition of the death penalty

APPLICATIONS ARE DUE BY: February1st and October 1st.

Please use this format if possible.
Applications for funding are to include the following information:
1. Provide the Mission Statement for project:

2. Describe the program/project and its goals. How will/does the program encourage addressing public policy and advocacy?

3. Include:
a) Amount of grant requested.
Current project budget and projected budget.

b) List all sources of funding and potential funds.

4. List contact person, name, address, telephone number and e-mail address.

5. Who will be served or reached by the proposed program/project, (gender, age, ethnicity, sexual orientation, etc.)?

6. How will you publicize the program/project to churches and agencies of the annual conference? And the results?

For ecumenical based organizations/agencies. Indicate previous and current relationship to The United Methodist Church.

Guidelines for Use of Peace with Justice Funds
Witness Team, Oregon-Idaho Annual Conference,
The United Methodist Church

The BOOK of DISCIPLINE 2000, OF THE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH
¶ 263.5 Peace with Justice Sunday…shall be observed with an offering…
¶ 263.5a: The Annual Conference treasurer shall retain 50 percent of the receipts for Peace with Justice
Ministries in the Annual Conference, to be administered by the Annual Conference Board of Church and
Society or equivalent structure.

Maximum Request for each Peace with Justice Mini Grant is $500
Funding requests shall be considered for programs/projects of the following agencies or organizations, with preference given in the following order:

1. Projects/programs of the Conference Witness Team that enhance the goals of the Peace with Justice Program (BOOK of RESOLUTIONS 2000, pages 774 -779), or that further the work of the Board of Church and Society.

2. Local Churches of the Annual Conference. New projects/programs will be given priority.

3. Ecumenical based organizations or agencies that seek funding for programs or projects that do one
or more of the following:
a) Enhance the work of the Board of Church and Society/Witness Team;
b) Invite and encourage public advocacy;
c) Invite and encourage participation of and/or provide resources for people, local churches, districts, or program agencies of our annual conference. New projects/programs will be given priority.

The funding applications received shall be forwarded to the Chairperson for the Conference Witness Team.

Funding requests will be taken to the next scheduled meeting of the Witness Team at the Convocation of Ministry Gatherings scheduled twice a year. The Peace with Justice Coordinator shall act on urgent requests received in between meetings.

Those requesting funding may be asked to meet with members of the Witness Team before a decision are made on your application. Incomplete applications will be returned.

Notification of the decision on your application will be made within two weeks of the meeting of the Witness Team, or of the Peace with Justice Coordinator making the decision.
