Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Western District Church Extension Society? The WDCES are the churches of the Western District working together to help those churches which have special needs that they alone cannot (financially) meet. In other words “churches helping churches”. These needs may be to the physical facility (church or parsonage), may involve strengthening current ministries, or may involve developing new ministries. Whether it be a furnace which needs to be replaced, a leaky roof which needs to be repaired, other unexpected repairs which need to be made, or supporting a new ministry the goal of the WDCES is to provide the needed support.
What types of assistance are available? Both financial and consultation assistance is available. Financial assistance is in the form of grants or loans.
Where does the WDCES obtain their funding? The WDCES is funded through an “asking” of all churches in the Western District. Other income comes from interest on funds currently invested, and from interest on loans to churches. In addition, a special category has been established by which the District Superintendent can offer grants of up to $500 as needs emerge. This category is funded by the newly established $50 Club.
How do I know if the needs of my church qualify for assistance from the WDCES? Obtain an application form (available online below) or from the Western District office and submit to the WDCES. The WDCES Project Coordinator will review the request, determine if additional information is needed and present the request to the WDCES Board for approval. The Project Coordinator will contact you to let know if the request has been approved.
How can I obtain more information on the WDCES? Come to the annual meeting in October where both clergy and laity are encouraged to attend.(see agenda, officers, and minutes from the most recent meeting below). Obtain a copy of the brochure to be mailed to all of the churches prior to the annual meeting. (See the brochure link above). Talk to one of the Board Members and watch this site for additional information!
