Springing Through Spring

With the arrival of spring there is always an unnerving presence of unrest.  Property tax, income tax, year-end reports, social obligations, and a host of other commitments take their toll.   Efficient streamlining is a must because compulsion and urgency drive us into spring. 

A few weeks ago when we were on our annual European trip, Sharon and our daughter, Medora, had one of these experiences of streamlining in Madrid.  Boarding a city sightseeing bus to redeem vouchers for the group, they found that there was not only a driver but also a conductor who was in charge of ticket sales.  By the time the transaction was completed, the driver had moved on!  Sharon and Medora laughed as those gathered waved goodbye to them as the bus started to move.  Never mind!  They just got off at the next stop and took a taxi back to the bus stop where the group was patiently awaiting their return.  Streamlined bus service is commendable, but this time it was just a little too efficient!

In the hurry up of spring, let us remember to reserve some time for calm that removes us from daily stress.  Remember to be calm.  Take a few moments to be calm.  Be calm.  Isaiah’s verse comes to mind:  “In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and confidence shall be your strength.”  (Isaiah 30:15) 

Whether returning to a bus stop, resting after mailing your taxes, finding a moment of quiet in the midst of chaos, or simply thanking God for the gift of confidence in moving forward through multiple tasks and responsibilities, those are words you can trust!
