Many spouses of clergy in the Oregon-Idaho Annual Conference find support and affirmation from Clergymates.
This group emerged in the late 1970s from what was then called Ministers’ Wives. With the coming of male spouses of ministers and with a rising sensitivity to inclusive language, the organization renamed itself Clergymates.
Clergymates sponsors an annual spring retreat and activities for spouses during Annual Conference each June. Through the years, Clergymates has become a haven for some, particularly those attending its retreats, which offer a supportive and affirming atmosphere as well as a chance to make new friends and strengthen existing friendships.
Clergymates offers a supportive group that understands. Even if we are busy and unable to connect with each other, except at the yearly retreat and/or at Annual Conference, knowing there are others out there who are thinking of us and on whom we can call if we need to is a great comfort. Being involved with Clergymates is a way to stay strong and to strengthen others.
