April 22-24, 2008

“Preaching from the Inside Out”

Save the dates. Registration information will be coming soon. April 22-24 at Suttle Lake the clergy of the Central District will gather for their annual retreat.

This year our retreat leader will be Emmett Shortreed. The theme will be “Preaching from the Inside Out.” Emmett will be presenting a psychological model of preaching not so much oriented to propositions as to persons. You won’t be hearing the old idea that a good sermon has three points and a poem. Emmett will be introducing us to two-point preaching: point one is “oops” and point two is “aha”.

In his long career serving United Methodist churches, mainly in the Oregon-Idaho Annual Conference, Emmett was highly regarded as an outstanding preacher. He also has the gift of helping others grow in their preaching skills. This is a retreat you will not want to miss!
